What Is Self Install?

Broadband self Install is an easy means for the user to connect to the broadband network. Self install is the most popular option chosen by home users (and many business users) since it generally uses a USB port modem, or a router with a built-in ADSL modem.

Soon after placing your order with your chosen broadband provider, you will be assigned an activation date for your broadband connection to begin. This is assuming your telephone line meets the current requirements for broadband (see What Do I Need to Get Online).

You will need to purchase a USB ADSL modem (if your broadband supplier does not provide one for you) or a router. If purchasing a router, you will need to ensure it also has a built in ADSL modem.

Once your telephone line is enabled for broadband (activation date), you will then need to install your modem or router. This is a straightforward process, similar to installing any hardware device, such as a printer although some wireless routers require that you insert them into a spare PCI socket within your computer.

Following the instructions supplied by your broadband provider, you simply connect to the broadband network!

You do not require an engineer for any of the above steps since updating your telephone line is all done from the exchange and installing your connection device (USB ADSL modem or router) is done as simply as connecting a printer.
